Isaac Ssemakadde the president of the Uganda Law Society also commonly known as a rebel lawyer has today convened an Electronic meeting to address the current power situation within the society he leads where one of his staffs Phillip Munaabi also the secretary of the body allegedly connived with council member Geoffrey Turyamusiima the central region representative to overthrow his government.

The ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde in a Sunday statement released after the council’s electronic meeting condemned Munaabi’s unauthorized actions whom he said worked together with Council Member (Central), Geoffrey Turyamusiima to mastermind the alleged ‘coup’.

Ssemakadde revealed that the Council was aware of two documents which were purportedly signed by Munaabi. The first, a two-page document dated 23rd November 2024, titled “Council Order No. 1 of 2024 Expulsion of the President and Vice President from the Uganda Law Society Council,” which was declared not an official record of the ULS Council he heads.

“The document has been confirmed as the unauthorized work of two Council members: Phillip Munaabi and Geoffrey Turyamusiima (hereinafter referred to as “the minority”),” a statement released by Ssemakadde on Sunday via his official X account read in part.

The Meeting on Sunday also expressed grave concern over a pattern of subversive conduct by Munaabi and Turyamusiima among which included but not limited to unauthorized disclosure of confidential information, fraudulent use of a Council member’s signature and strategic absenteeism from Council meetings ,resolved to suspend the duo indefinitely. “In response to these actions, the Council, by majority decision, has suspended Munaabi and Turyamusiima with immediate effect. Their removal from office will be determined at a general meeting scheduled for 17th December 2024.

Meanwhile, Eddie Nangulu has been appointed as the interim Secretary,” the statement signed off by the council executive read on Sunday.

Semakadde’s woes stem from the recent remarks he made against the person of the DPP Justice Jane Francis Abodo which the now suspended members claim were uncalled for and needed action from the council.

It should be noted that Semakadde’s reign as the ULS president has been facing backlash from his own members and the public due to his methods of work which seem to be degrading the reputation of the ULS.

The Nation will wait to see who has powers to suspend the other due to the fact that the president was first suspended by the secretary who has now been suspended by the president that was earlier suspended.
