AMOLATAR,
The residents of Ocora Parish in Acii Sub-County, Amolatar District, are appealing for urgent government intervention after the Ocombole River overflowed, cutting off major roads and leaving communities stranded.
The rising waters have submerged key access routes, disrupting travel, trade, and access to essential services such as healthcare and education. Farmers are unable to transport their produce to markets, while children struggle to reach schools due to the impassable roads.
Local leaders and affected residents are calling on the government and humanitarian organizations to provide immediate relief.
“We are suffering. The river has cut us off completely, and our people are stuck,” said Mr. Okello, a community elder. “Pregnant women, the sick, and schoolchildren are the most affected. We need help now.”
The Amolatar District leadership has acknowledged the crisis and promised to assess the situation. However, residents demand swift action, including the construction of bridges or elevated roads to prevent future disruptions.
While emergency measures such as temporary boats could offer short-term relief, locals insist on permanent infrastructure to address the recurring flooding.
“We need proper bridges and better drainage systems to stop this problem once and for all,” said Ms. Aceng, a trader in Ochora.
As the community waits for intervention, the people of Ochora Parish remain hopeful that their cries for help will be heard before the situation worsens.
