The rains which started on Friday, led the river to burst its banks near a bridge bordering Otuke and Alebtong districts in Orum Sub-County.

Otuke district authorities report that no casualties have been recorded yet. However, the situation remains dire, with floodwaters completely severing the road, stranding residents and hampering emergency response efforts.

Local officials are closely monitoring the situation and have assured the public that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Authorities have also appealed to the public to exercise caution and avoid the affected area until the water levels reduce and repairs are completed.

Last year, flash floods in Moroto Municipality claimed the lives of two children in separate incidents in Narwosi and Katanga. In Narwosi, heavy rains swept away Lucia Ilukol and Hellen Aleper; Ilukol drowned while Aleper was rescued. In Katanga, two-year-old Evalin Sabuwa died after floods destroyed her home. Sabuwa was retrieved from the water and rushed to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, where she died shortly after arrival.
