Police in Rubirizi district are investigating circumstances under which a 40-year-old man was assaulted to death in a bar brawl on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Saverino Tumuhereze, a resident of Kagando village, Kyabakara sub-county in Rubirizi district, was allegedly attacked after being found drinking waragi with another man’s wife.
The incident occurred at Eden Trading Centre, Rushoro village, Rugarama parish, Rugarama sub-county.
According to police, the suspect has been identified as Deo Kirinya, 32, a resident of Rutondo village in Nyabubaare parish, Rubirizi district.
“He allegedly assaulted the deceased after finding him taking waragi with his wife in a bar,” said SSP Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson.
Tumuhereze was reportedly rescued in an unconscious state by the area local council chairperson and rushed to Kyabakara Health Centre III, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have condemned the act and said investigations are ongoing.
“We pledge to produce the suspect to court once we gather the necessary evidence against him,” Tayebwa added.
The body of the deceased was taken for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
