Bob Rugonde Alex, a rising political contender, has expressed confidence in his path to Uganda’s 12th Parliament, saying recent developments have strengthened his campaign and energized his supporters.
During Christmas Mass at St. Peter’s Parish Buyanja, Rugonde urged constituents to prepare for a grand celebration on 16th January at Buyanja playground, just hours after the announcement of election results. His optimism follows reports that incumbent MP Hon. Naboth has been actively involved in President Museveni’s campaign yet he is a flag bearer for the opposition party PFF, a move that has stirred debate among voters in Rubabo.
Naboth was reportedly recorded at the burial of the late John Twinomujuni in Nyakishenyi Sub County, where he confirmed his support for Museveni’s bid where he said the country cannot stay without a president,so je had to support the ruling president. The development has sparked conversations within the constituency, with some voters expressing disappointment and others reassessing their political choices.
Rugonde, however, chose to focus on his own vision, painting a vivid picture of victory and promising to lead his supporters to Kampala in May 2026 for his swearing‑in ceremony.
“We have been escorting others. I have already booked five buses to escort me to Kampala,” Rugonde declared, drawing cheers from the congregation.
He extended gratitude to priests at St. Peter’s Parish for fostering unity during the election period, praising their neutrality and welcoming spirit. Rugonde noted that despite having Catholic candidates in the NRM primaries, the clergy refrained from directing Christians on whom to vote for, instead encouraging harmony among all.
He further thanked the people of Rubabo for rallying behind him, even after what he described as the “loss” of the NRM flag, assuring them of victory on 15th January and pledging to represent their voices in Parliament.
