The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rwampara District, Musa Tukwatanise, has called on residents to turn up in large numbers for the Sub-County and Town Council elections scheduled for tomorrow , Wednesday February 4, 2026.

Tukwatanise, who also serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Secretary for the Sheema District Youth League, says local council leaders are closest to people and play a critical role in community and government development programmes.

He described the local council elections as critical, noting that the leaders to be elected will have direct interaction with communities and play a key role in addressing local challenges.

“These are leaders who handle community matters daily, including resolving family and social issues before they escalate to higher authorities,” he said.

Tukwatanise said the electorate’s participation in the recently concluded presidential polls, in which President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was voted into office for a 7th term, demonstrated public confidence in the NRM leadership, urging voters to support NRM flag bearers in Wednesday’s elections.

According to him, strengthening leadership at local government level helps facilitate service delivery from the central government to grassroots communities.

“A strong guardian must have strong roots and the roots are the councillors at Sabu County, the roots are the chairpersons at Sub-County. So please empower NRM government with NRM flag bearers at Sub-County level so that when services come from up, they are able to be decentralized up to the common man at the village,” he said.

“I encourage all residents to come out in big numbers and participate,” Tukwatanise told Parrots Media.

The Assistant RDC further appealed to residents to maintain peace during the elections, emphasizing that stability remains a key pillar of national development. He noted that peace and security are highlighted in the NRM manifesto for 2026–2031 as essential factors in Uganda’s drive towards attaining middle-income status.

Local council elections for chairpersons and councillors across several parts of the country are expected to take place on February 4, according to the electoral commission.
