Students in Rwenzori region have been advised to avoid early sexual engagement activities if they are to achieve their academic goals.
The call was made by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) Commissioner Hellen Seku after completing three days of monitoring and evaluation exercise that was projected to evaluate how patriotism activities are being conducted in all secondary schools in the whole region.
According to Seku, early sexual practices hinder their potential to progress with academics as they end up being problems to the society.
“As Patriots, you preserve your bodies because they are temples of God.i want you to avoid sexual immoralities and live a fruitful life. Why do you prefer rushing to marriage instead of focusing on your studies so that you excel and get a right partner at a right time,”
“I must also warn you against consequences of early involvement into sexual practices which include early marriages and number one killer disease that is HIV/AIDS. When you get pregnant when you are still in school, you become a burden to your family and community,” said Seku.
She went ahead to advise them to observe discipline, stay determined to their studies and the sky will be the limit for them.
“Allow me to let you know that you are the future generation and leaders of tomorrow but you will never achieve this when you are not morally upright, therefore my message to you today is for you to stick on your studies, consult your teachers where you do not understand so that you pass well with flying colors”
“Girls please you don’t have a reason to allow boda men to disorganize you but also boys tighten your zips and don’t ever allow old women out there to confuse you,” Seku added
Seku also encouraged them to embrace all the core values of patriotism so that they grow into well-groomed and responsible citizens, a new generation with a positive attitude towards their country, themselves and families.
“I cannot forget to remind you that Uganda is our homeland. It is therefore profoundly important to love and cherish it. As patriots we also have to love our families where we come from, Love East Africa and Africa at large,”
“We should also have respect to all national symbols that is the Ugandan flag, court of arms, and at this time we belong to the East African community meaning that we should know how to sing all the anthems in Kiswahili language.” she said
Rose Namara Batuuze, the Kamwenge Deputy Resident District Commissioner applauded Seku and her team at the Secretariat for promoting patriotism program country wide.
She also thanked President Museveni for initiating and supporting such an incredible program that is intended to raise the new generation of citizens with a positive mindset to their country.
“I want to thank Seku for the work of monitoring and evaluation she has done in the schools of our region because without patriotism in our offices of work, families and churches, there is nothing we are doing as a country,”
“I also want to thank the President for being a patriotic leader because as Ugandans we wouldn’t be where we are without his love for Ugandans and the whole country.” she added
The exercise was conducted in 122 secondary schools in districts of Fort Portal, Kabarole, Kyegegwa, Kitagwenda, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo and Ntoroko.
