A senior UPDF officer at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) has been sent on remand on allegations of defiling a 18-year-student he has been taking care of.
On Tuesday (August 16), Rtd. Lt. Col. Stephen Aine was arraigned before the Lira grade one magistrate court which found him guilty of the offences.
Court presided over by Nanyanzi Pamela Percy Mary heard that Rtd. Lt. Col. Aine Mugisha, 39, a resident of Teso Bar, Adyel Ward, Lira city West division since 2016 to August 2022, has been defiling the girl (name withheld) who is now 18 years old
The Lira district resident state attorney Julius Peter Ogwang said that the actions by the officer are contrary to section 3(1) (a) and section 5 (a) of prevention of trafficking in person Act 2009.
In her ruling, the Lira grade one magistrate Pamela Percy Mary Nanyanzi said her court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case and consequently remanded the officer to Lira central government prison till 30/8/2022.
