Seven people have been killed and over 100 injured in a missile strike in the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv. The attack has been condemned by the United Nations, with Denise Brown, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, calling it “heinous.”
The missile strike occurred hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his top army commanders in Moscow. Chernihiv, located 150 kilometres north of Kyiv, has largely avoided major attacks since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
’It is believed that the attack was carried out during the morning of the Orthodox holiday of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which drew many Ukrainians to attend church services.
