Denis Hamson Obua, the state minister for sports has petitioned parliament to allocate Shs 105b to support the sports industry in the country.
Obua made the remarks on Tuesday while appearing before the parliamentary committee on Education sitting at parliament.
Obua told the committee that when government increased sports funding in 2019 from Shs 3.5b to Shs25b, the country performance in sports improved.
He told parliament that he has all the potentials to create jobs for Ugandans through sports as well as promoting Ugandan sports to a next level.
He further argued that the Sh105b when allocated, Shs 27b will be channeled to refurbishment of various stadiums across the country, Shs78b is required to support activities of the National Council for Sports – NCS, and 51 sports federations/associations.
He argued that the current funding (Shs25b) is still inadequate to support all sporting activities like developing necessary sports facilities.
