Police in Elgon Region has arrested six of their own on allegations of armed robbery on a truck driver.
The Elgon Region Police Spokesperson Rogers Taitika has identified the suspects as D/ASP Gerald Sabiiti No.51086, PC Anthony Wanjala No.64627, D/C Jamada Wangiri No.68822, PPC Kamada Katende No.69001, PPC Fauhara Namwoyo No.55238, and C/DR Wycliffe Chepwekwech , all attached to Sironko Central Police Station.
It is alleged the officers have been terrorizing the area with armed robberies.
According to police report, they were arrested following a complaint that they robbed money worth Ugx 10 million and 122 cartons of wheat amounting to Shillings 7 m from a truck driver.
Police alleges that on November 19, while at Nakiwondwe cell, Budadiri Town council in Sironko District, the gang attacked Ronald Sikoria, 30, a resident of Cheprayi village Kwanyi sub-county in Kween District dealing in truck driving, put him on gunpoint and robbed him of his belongings.
They allegedly attacked the driver robbing him of all the money in his bag and forced him to leave with them some of the tangible items he had in the vehicle.
