MBARARA: A 31 yr old man in Mbarara has been arrested and detained for allegedly murdering his mother over land disputes.
The suspect is Geoffrey Tumwine , a resident of Akacence cell Rwamuhigi Parish Rubindi sub county in Mbarara district.
Tumwine allegedly killed his 60 year old mother identified as Kekimuli Joveret alias Kashobire, a resident of Rwenkuba Cell Rwamuhigi Parish, Rubindi Sub County Mbarara.
According to Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, the deceased and the son, Tumwine, have been involved in a long standing land conflict something that may have caused the fateful act.
Kashobire’s body was on July 31 discovered in a pool of blood by residents who tipped off police.
Police immediately responded to the scene and found the body with deep cuts on the head.
A police sniffer dog was used to track the suspects and tracked Tumwine Geoffrey, alongside other two suspects.
The other co arrests are Ndyamwijuka Godfrey, 19, resident of Rwenkuba Cell and Oramukunde Johnson, 17, resident of Kigoro Cell in Rwamuhigi Parish, Rubindi Sub County.
Kasasira told reports that police recovered two exhibits including a panga and hoe suspected to have been used in the murder.
The suspects are crrently under police detention at Central Police Station Mbarara while the body of the deceased was taken to Mbarara Regional referral hospital for postmortem. A case of murder has been registered at Rubindi Police post under reference number SD 14/31/07/2021.
