A bizzare has happened in Ashanti region of Gold Coast state of Ghana after police confirmed they had arrested a student teacher for allegedly impregnating 24 of his learners, school’s Headmistress and four of the female teachers on staff.
The teacher yet to be identified has been on his mandatory teaching practice also known as internship at one of the basic schools in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
According to Ghana Education Service and Ghana Tertiary Education Commission( GTEC), the rules on Teaching Practice prohibits student-teachers from misconducting themselves in ways that does not augur well for the smooth running of schools.
The commission also sends manuals such as Supported Teaching in Schools, National Teaching Council Teacher Engagement, National Teaching Standards developed to guide student – teachers during their Practices.
It has been alleged that the teacher trainee is a level 400 student-teacher from a popular College of Education in the Western Region.
The report of the sexual-abuse was reported to police by the concerned Community members after they got wind of teacher’s amorous relationship with the headmistress.
The Asokore Mampong Municipal Police Command confirmed they have arrested the said trainee and is currently under detention.
