Gulu District witnessed an inspiring medical and  surgical camp in Unyama Sub-County, Ogul Village, organized by Doctors on Mission in partnership with Amigos Internacionales from March 28th to 30th.With over 1,500 people benefiting from free medical services, the camp made a profound impact on the community, addressing critical health challenges and sharing the message of hope.

During the three-day event, 418 individuals were screened for cancers like breast, cervical, and prostate cancer.Six hundred patients accessed free laboratory services,24 general surgeries were performed, including hernia repairs and cystectomies, Four hundred eye screening that led to free reading glasses for many and over 20 eye surgeries, with 80 more scheduled at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.

In the same spirit, two hundred individuals benefited from Eco and ECG for heart conditions, including Rheumatic Heart Disease. Four hundred fifty people received dental care, such as extractions and fillings while fifty children were immunized, protecting them from common and childhood diseases and family planning services were provided to 50 women.

Moreover, through evangelism efforts, 56 community members embraced Christianity, finding spiritual transformation alongside physical healing.

Betty Ocan, Gulu City’s Member of Parliament, expressed gratitude for the camp reaching remote areas like Ogul. She emphasized the importance of health as a cornerstone for productivity.

Hon. Sharon Laker, Gulu Woman Member of Parliament, highlighted the region’s malaria burden and poverty, thanking the team for their invaluable support. She urged locals to follow doctors’ advice, particularly concerning alcohol consumption during treatment.

Michael Ryer, CEO of Amigos Internacionales, celebrated the camp’s achievements, saying, “We have witnessed God’s amazing work in transforming Ogul Village into a model mission point through healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.”

Dr. Paul Mulyamboga, Team Leader at Doctors on Mission, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of over 100 medical volunteers from across Uganda.

Kibwota Patrick, Director of Operations – Uganda, explained that Ogul was chosen for its resilience amidst long-standing challenges like poverty, inadequate healthcare, and scars from LRA conflicts. At Amigos Internacionales, we believe in fostering lasting change by walking alongside communities,” he added, underscoring Ogul’s potential for growth and transformation.

The medical camp stands as a testament to the power of partnership and compassion. Its success not only brought relief to a vulnerable community but also reaffirmed the commitment to expanding healthcare initiatives across all mission points. Ogul is now a shining example of how collaboration can unlock possibilities and inspire hope.

This story reflects the strength of communities when united by a shared purpose. Truly, the work of Doctors on Mission and Amigos Internacionales is changing lives and shaping futures.
