Three suspects have been apprehended by police in Kiruhura District for allegedly stealing goats from a resident in the area. Kaweesi William Kashija, Muhinda John, and Abaho Obadia have been arrested over the incident that occurred on the night of 05/10/2023 when the complainant heard noise in their goats’ shelter.
According to police reports, the suspects took off with the animals when the complainant opened the door to check on them. The following morning at around 9:00 am, the complainant and the LC.1 chairperson proceeded to Kashaija’s home to investigate the whereabouts of the stolen animals.
Upon arrival, they noted flies in and around his house and asked Kashaija’s wife about his whereabouts. She informed them that he had recently left after bringing meat to their home. Upon opening Kashaija’s house, police discovered goats’ meat that had been stolen from the complainant’s goat pen.
The community and LC.1 chairperson immediately arrested Kashaija and handed him over to the police who launched a thorough investigation.
The suspects have since been charged, and the case will proceed to court. The police are warning the public about the consequences of theft, urging them to desist from such activities.
Theft of livestock is a problem that has plagued the area for some time now. The police have increased their efforts to combat the criminal activity, and it is hoped that with the successful arrest of the suspects, it will serve as a deterrent to others contemplating engaging in such activities.
