Police in Ntungamo District have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Naekeree Kedress, a resident of Butare Ward in Kauhunga Sub-county. The trio was arrested following deployment of the police sniffer dog, Yudah, which successfully led investigators to one of the suspects’ homes.
According to police reports, the body of Naekeree Kedress was discovered hanging in front of her house, under suspicious circumstances. She had been staying with her grandson, who informed authorities that two unidentified men attacked his grandmother, strangled her, and later staged the scene to make it appear as suicide.
When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they deployed K9 dog Yudah, which picked up a scent and tracked it for nearly one kilometer. The dog led officers directly to the home of Mercy, the deceased’s daughter-in-law, who was arrested.
Following her arrest, Mercy reportedly confessed to having knowledge of the crime and named three suspects . Two of the individuals she identified have been arrested, while one remains unseen.
The three suspects currently in custody are helping police with investigations. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspect, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
“This is a tragic incident, but we are making significant progress in ensuring justice for the deceased,” the DPC said.
The body of Naekeree Kedress has been taken for postmortem examination as the investigation continues.
