BUSHENYI
Three men died on Friday in a suspected electrocution during a church crusade at Kashenyi Market Place, Ibaare Sub County, Bushenyi District.
The victims were identified by police as Atuhweere Blessed, 23, of Ntungamo District; Narutazari Waiswa, 48, of Mitooma District; and Rwakisheija William, 43, of Bushenyi District.
One survivor, Mulekwa Nathan, 40, sustained injuries but his condition and whereabouts remain unclear, according to Bushenyi Police.
Preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred when the metallic tip of a tent being shifted came into contact with a high-voltage three-phase power line.
Bushenyi Regional Police PRO, SP Tayebwa Apollo, said the organizers of the Rock Ministries crusade had not notified police about the event. “The scene was managed, and the bodies were taken to KIU Teaching Hospital Ishaka mortuary for postmortem,” he said.
Police have launched investigations into the incident and urged event organizers to always seek technical guidance and security clearance to prevent such tragedies.
