KAMPALA
Police are investigating the killing of two Burundian nationals who were stabbed to death on Sunday, December 15, in separate attacks in Kampala.
The double murder occurred in Kawempe Zone, Kisenyi III, Central Division, where a Burundian man identified only as Emma, also known as Young, allegedly attacked and killed his compatriots.
According to police, the two deceased men, whose identities have not yet been established, are estimated to be in their 20s and late 30s respectively. Preliminary information indicates that the suspect first attacked one of the victims as he was returning home from work as a hawker, cutting him on the neck and killing him instantly.
The assailant then reportedly moved about 300 metres from the first scene, where he attacked and fatally stabbed the second victim who he found sleeping and cut him in the neck.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, saying investigations had been launched to establish the motive behind the attacks.
“He was found in critical condition and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment under police guard,” Owoyesigyire said, adding that the suspect is believed to have attempted to harm himself after the attacks before being restrained by residents who alerted police.
Owoyesigyire said police officers visited and documented both crime scenes, while efforts are ongoing to identify the victims and trace their next of kin.
Police appealed to members of the public with information that could aid investigations to come forward.
