In a bid to ensure justice is prevailed, territorial police in Bushenyi is holding two suspects for assaulting an elderly woman identified as Maria Kyomugisha, who appeared in a video clip being viciously assaulted, canned and tortured, crying helplessly with no one to save her dear life.

The suspects have been identified as Lukia Atwongeire 38yrs and Vincent Ka mukama 40yrs, both of whom are residents of Kyakebizi cell, Central Division, Ishaka- Bushenyi Municipality. Another prime suspect identified by his first name as Keith is on a run and authorities are hunting him.

VIRGINITY OF THE ASSAULTS.
It’s alleged that on the ewe evening hours of Sunday March1st, 2020, 66years old, Maria Kyomugisha was found in the banana plantations of Lukia Atwongeire with a skeleton of a bird’s head which according to the plantations owner is termed as witch craft.
Maria was dragged into Lukia’s home where she was brutally canned before being taken to Bushenyi Police Station. At the Police Station, she (Maria) was charged of Criminal trespass and later released on bond as findings into the matters were on going. The bird Skelton was also exhibited.
TURMOIL
Three days later, [5th March] a video of two people (a man and a woman’s voice in background] was released showing how Maria was brutally tortured.
“The victim was subjected to medical examination and her injuries classified as grievous harm,” reads excerpts of the police statement.
The video received viral social media circulations calling for immediate actions. Uganda police and other sister security organs were of no option but rather to ensure social justice prevails for Maria.
SEARCH
The Territorial Police in Bushenyi started searching operations until they landed on the two suspects Lukia Atwongeire and Vincent Ka mukama, and arrested them.
“The suspects were arrested and are in custody…” Police Mouthpiece CP Fred Enanga confirmed the arrest a few minutes ago today.
According to Enanga, a third prime suspect identified as Keith (surname not yet established) took on his heels and is being sought.
Searches to find a person who tortured the victim and the one who recorded the old woman crying out for help are under way.
APPLAUSE AND CONSOLATIONS
Uganda Police Force has applauded the social media community for raising alarms against the acts and consoled the family of the victim that police shall ensure fast tracking of the matter into court.
“We would like to thank the social media community for sharing the video. We would like to further reassure them, the family of the victim and the wider community who were disturbed by the shocking video that we shall fast track the matter to court.” Enanga assures

Police say the two sister case files of criminal trespass and torture are jointly being investigated, and progressing well.
