MBARARA
Rwampara Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Harriet Nakamya has confirmed the arrest of two National Resistance Movement (NRM) registrars from Rwampara and Mbarara on allegations of election malpractice.
The suspects, identified as Mutahi Jackson (Rwampara registrar) and Sebuma Kawesa (Mbarara City registrar), were reportedly involved in forging declaration forms following the recent NRM primaries for the Woman Member of Parliament seat in Rwampara District. The primaries saw Hon. Molly Asiimwe lose to her opponent, Anne Kansiime.
RDC Nakamya advised Hon. Molly to respect the election results or pursue a formal petition rather than misleading the public by claiming victory on local radio stations.
The arrests came shortly after Anne Kansiime alleged that Hon. Molly had met secretly with Tanga Odoi, the national NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, at Hotel Las Vegas in an attempt to overturn the results of the election.
Kansiime urged the people of Rwampara to stand by her and safeguard their electoral victory.
