At least two people have been confirmed dead in a Mbarara – Lyantonde Road accident.
The accident that occurred on Wednesday evening at Rwebitete along Mbarara-Lyantonde highway after a trailer carrying cement registration number UBJ 436H/ UBA 787S had a head on collision with a Fuso truck carrying milk registration number UAW 901Z.
The Rwizi Region Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira, identified the deceased as Mohamed Kayima, Fuso truck driver and his turn boy, Suna Mathias, a resident of Kyewanura in Lyantonde District.
Kasasira said that 4 other people including the trailer driver identified as Kayongo Abdul, Mubiru Collins, Kyarutaba Victor and Musingize Zefa were serious injured and were rushed to Lyantonde Health Centre IV for treatments.
Kasasira attributed the accident to overspeeding and reckless driving on part of the Fuso truck driver who died on spot.
A case of fatal accident was registered at Kiruhura Police Station under reference number TAR 40/2021 to help in investigations.
