Police in Sheema district is holding two Senior one students of St. Charles Lwanga High School on allegations of authoring a letter threatening terror attacks against the school.
The suspects are Mwesigye Innocent (16) , and Ayebale Amon (17), both classmates at the same school.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga said security together with the school administration carried out a thorough investigation in which it was established that the letter was written by Mwesigye and Ayebale.
Upon interrogations, the duo admitted to having authored saying that they wanted to scare school administration which had punished for indiscipline after they were reported by one of the dormitory captains.
Further reports indicate that the suspects were planning to burn the school dormitory and have therefore used a letter as additional threats against the school.
“The suspects wanted to take advantage of the terror incident which occurred at Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese as they used it along other existing threats to come up with a written letter threatening their school,” Enanga said
The students had also indicated in a letter that there were other two schools in Kasese which they were also planning to attack.
An exercise book where the suspects plucked a page was recovered by police as an exhibit and will be subjected together with the specimen handwritings in the letter to the handwriting expert for analysis.
Police has warned students against making threats of violence, terror attacks, abduction and use of firearms as this may criminalize them.
“We are to make sure that these two students, although they are juveniles are taken to court for threatening violence and also probably remanded to a juvenile detention center,” Enanga said.
Three other students of St Charles Lwanga High School were prior to this incident on July 4 suspended from school on allegations of drug abuse.
