In a significant development, the Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority, Robert Mukiza, has succumbed to pressure and agreed to refund the money he and his team received as honoraria from an infrastructure loan.
This move comes after intense public scrutiny and calls for accountability from citizens and leaders, including Hon. Evelyn Anite, the Minister in charge of investment and privatization.
The State Minister of Finance in charge of Investments and Privatization, Hon Evelyne Anite, directed the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) officials to refund over Shs 500m received as ‘honoraria’ from funds earmarked for construction of transport infrastructure in Namanve Industrial Park.
Drama started unfolding when the contractor Lagan Dott wrote to UIA Executive Director, Robert Mukiza, seeking guidance to enable payment of the Project Management Team (PMT) and tax implications for payments made to date.
