The Government of Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing the power of its youthful population as a cornerstone of national development. Preparations are underway for the 4th Annual National Labour Convention and Expo 2026, set to take place at the Kampala Serena Hotel from April 15–16, 2026 under the theme: “Unlocking the Potential of Uganda’s Youth Labour Force: Advancing Productivity and Expanding Opportunities for Decent Work.”
The high-level convention will bring together government leaders, private sector executives, academics, and development partners to chart a progressive path for Uganda’s labour market. With over 75% of the population under 30, Uganda is uniquely positioned to leverage its demographic advantage for sustained economic growth.
Since its inception in 2023, the National Labour Convention has become a cornerstone platform for dialogue and action on employment, productivity, and inclusive growth. The 2026 edition builds on earlier successes, aligning with Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV, both of which emphasize youth empowerment as a driver of transformation.
Government officials acknowledge persistent challenges such as informality and youth unemployment but highlight promising progress in skills development, digital innovation, and entrepreneurship. The convention will focus on scaling these solutions, strengthening partnerships, and dismantling barriers to decent work.
The event will be presided over by Her Excellency the Vice President of Uganda as Chief Guest, alongside Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, and private sector leaders. Their participation underscores a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to tackling employment challenges.
The Expo segment will showcase innovative programs and practical solutions aimed at enhancing labour productivity and expanding opportunities for young Ugandans. Businesses, training institutions, and development organizations are encouraged to exhibit technologies and initiatives that support job creation and skills development.
As Uganda advances toward inclusive and sustainable growth, the Convention stands as a testament to the government’s proactive efforts to empower youth and build a resilient workforce. Proceedings will be broadcast live, ensuring transparency and broad national engagement in shaping the future of work.
