In two days, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 34 cases in less than 48hrs the first ever recorded since the country confirmed her first case in March.
Yesterday Thursday May 14th,2020, Ministry of health confirmed more new 21COVID-19 cases from the 1,593 samples of Truck Drivers, the highest registered since first case in march.
A day before, other 13 COVID-19 cases were also confirmed again from the truck drivers at the borders of Mutukula, Malaba, Elegu, some of whom were Ugandans, and those from Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and Eritrea.

This has put the lives of many Ugandans at more risks due to day to day rising numbers of truck drivers testing positive at border points. Border points have been alleged to be an epicenter of the virus in Uganda something that is prompting the population agitate for an immediate closure of the border points which gov’t is still outrageously suspending.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the new 21corona virus cases confirmed yesterday rises the total number of COVID-19 cases to 160 in Uganda.
Ministry further explained that the new cases are of Ugandans, Kenyans, Tanzanians and South Sudanese whose samples were taken at the border points of Mutukula, Busia, and Elegu.
The new cases are confirmed when days are being numbered to end the ongoing 14days lockdown in the country. However, reports have made business fraternity, Ugandans to lose hopes on easing of the lock down as there are no development plans by the government to stop truck drivers from entering the country yet the latter have been on spot of spreading the disease to uninfected citizens.
President Museveni and other Economic experts have hitherto warned against closing border points. H.E Museveni in most of his National Addresses on COVID-19 updates & Measures has been severely quoted arguing that blocking borders is suicidal to Uganda’s economy.
During a Community assessment surveys carried out yesterday, MoH tested 303 samples from the community which all tested negative.
Ministry reported total of 1,896 samples that tested yesterday as well a limited number of community infections.
Today, Uganda’s cinfirmed total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 160 cases, 66 of which are Active cases, 64 cases are Recoveries whereas 31 cases have been Repatriated to the suspects respective countries.
Uganda has no any fatalities recorded.
As a mean to contain the spread of the virus, government through MoH declared wearing face masks mandatory in public spaces on top of other precautionary measures.
