The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has said its victory in the Ajuri County parliamentary vote repeat was secured after party supporters and officials thwarted several alleged attempts to rig the election.
On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, UPC candidate Jalameso Fred was declared Member of Parliament–elect for Ajuri County following a rerun in 18 polling stations. He defeated Government Chief Whip Dennis Hamson Obua and three other candidates.
The rerun was conducted after UPC petitioned the Electoral Commission over irregularities in the January 15 parliamentary elections, which led to the cancellation of results from the affected polling stations.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, UPC Head of Media and Communications Muzeyi Faizo said the party encountered multiple challenges during the repeat poll but credited vigilance by supporters for the outcome.
“We faced many challenges and attempts to deny us victory, but the people of Ajuri stood firm. This win belongs to them,” Faizo said.
He added that party leaders, local organisers, elected leaders and supporters coordinated to monitor polling stations and the tallying process.
“Our members stayed at polling stations throughout the exercise, monitored the process and defended democracy peacefully. Their commitment made the difference,” Faizo said.
Faizo described the Ajuri outcome as a demonstration that electoral integrity can be upheld through collective vigilance.
Following the conclusion of the parliamentary contest, UPC said it is now focusing on the upcoming local government elections, including Sub-county chairperson, parish councillor and Special Interest Group (SIG) polls scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The party has called on supporters to turn up in large numbers for the local government elections and maintain the momentum demonstrated during the Ajuri vote repeat.
