According to the Chairman of the Party Electoral Commission, Haji Mahmood Kazimbiraine, the extension is intended to accommodate aspirants who may have been hindered by time constraints or logistical challenges.

“The Party Electoral Commission would like to inform the entire membership and the country at large that the deadline for the picking and returning of applications and declaration of interest forms for both parliamentary and local government positions has been extended to Friday, July 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.,” Haji Mahmood said.

He noted that the move is aimed at giving more room to all potential aspirants to participate in the upcoming elections without being locked out due to avoidable delays.

“The extension is purposely to allow those who were caught up by time or other challenges to express their interest in the election,” Hajji Kazimbiraine said.

The Party Electoral Commission also emphasized that special cases, such as Pakwach municipality which the commission says will be handled as previously guided.

By close of business on July 15, over 102 were cleared to contest for member of parliament and district LC5 chairpersons seats on UPC ticket across the country. The extension gives interested individuals an advantage to complete their application processes, meanwhile as political activities in different political parties intensify ahead of the 2026 general elections.
