The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has expressed concerns about the deliberate failure of the Electoral Commission to include local council elections in the released roadmap for 2026 general elections.
“UPC is concerned about the missing of the LC 1, 2 and women council elections in the revised roadmap for 2025-26 elections,” UPC said.
The party spokesperson, Sharon Oyat Arach called for the revision of the roadmap to include election of these structures stating that they are essential in the country’s politics.
On Tuesday, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) released the roadmap for the 2026 elections in which they announced dates for the nomination and voting of leaders at presidential, parliamentary and local government elections.
According to Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, the EC chairman, elections for presidential, parliamentary and local government elections would take place on January 12 and February 9, 2026.
