The ministry of defence and veterans affairs has issued a strong warning to the general public that whoever is found in possession of any security insignia will be aligned to the courts of law.
The ministry of defence and veterans affairs has noted with concern the increasing number of civilians the insignia that are a preserve of the security forces.
In a statement released by the army spokes person Brig Gen FM Kulayigye ,he states that section 160 of the Uganda peoples’ defence forces Act,2005 subsection 2 part(C) prohibits none members of the security forces from receiving, selling and possessing such attire that includes berets, lanyards and clothings.
Kulayigye further notes that Uganda gazette under genral notice number 1013 of 2019 dated 18th September,2019, prohibits members of the public from donning military wears and decorations or so nearly resembling them.
He therefore calls on the general public to desist from possessing such items or else face the legal action.
History: In October, 2020, over 70 NUP supporters were arrested in a security swoop at the NUP offices and around the city.
The prosecution alleged that on 14th October 2020 in Kamwokya some members of the public not being members of any security forces were found wearing or in possession of uniforms and berets that resemble those of the Uganda armed forces that include UPDF and Uganda Police.
