Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has accepted to ceompensate communities in Agago district whose properties and lives of their persons were destroyed by wildlife animals.
This was after a consultative meeting meeting with the area woman MP Beatrice Akori Akello and the chairpersons of the affected sub counties.
During the meeting which was chaired by Hon. Akello, the two parties discussed on the ongoing tragedy caused by the wildlife, majorly elephants and human races bordering Kidepo National Park.
Between June and October 2021, about 98 hectares of crops like simsim, millet, and beans have reportedly been destroyed and about three lives lost in the areas of Paimol, Lira, Palwo, Adilang and many others.
MP Akello urged residents to desist from provoking and harming animals but rather always report to UWA of the presence of animals in their areas. She added that wild animals are a threat both to human lives and their properties thus a need to alert the authorities in case they escape from the parks.
