BUSHENYI

The Police in Greater Bushenyi Region have dismissed as false and misleading a video circulating on social media showing a severely injured human hand, allegedly from an attack in Ishaka Town, Bushenyi District.

The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police PRO, S.P. Tayebwa Apollo said on Friday that the Police launched immediate investigations to trace both the alleged victim and the scene of the incident, but found no evidence to support the claims.

“No such event has been reported anywhere within Bushenyi District or in the wider Greater Bushenyi Police Region,” Tayebwa said.

He added that preliminary findings indicate the video and accompanying images were likely spread by unidentified individuals with malicious intent, possibly to cause unnecessary fear among the public.

“We urge the public to treat the video and images as false and unfounded. The origin of these claims is under investigation, and we suspect they were deliberately circulated to create alarm,” he said.

Police have reassured residents that the security situation across the Greater Bushenyi Region remains calm and normal, and there is no cause for panic.

The public has been advised to exercise caution and responsibility when sharing information online. Tayebwa warned that anyone found disseminating false or malicious content would face legal consequences.

“The Police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will take appropriate action against anyone spreading false information with malicious intent” he said.

Following reports of increasing insecurity targeting, especially students who move at night, the university guild council recently issued a cautionary notice to students warning them against night movements in dark spots, and advised them to move in groups and keep valuables such as phones and laptops safely in their bags to avoid attacks from thugs.

The Guild council further revealed that it was working closely with police officers stationed at Basajja to address the growing concern, appealing to students who fall victim to such incidents or witness any suspicious activity in their areas to report immediately to the Guild office or the nearest police post for prompt action.
