RUBIRIZI
A 25-year-old woman has been arrested for alleged murder of her husband in Rubirizi District.
The suspect, Nshemereirwe Evelyn allegedly murdered Vincent Namara, 30, her husband in suspected domestic violence.
The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, July 16, 2025, in Kikoni B Village, Kashenyi Parish, Rutoto Sub-County at around 11:00pm.
Police say initial findings suggest the couple had been experiencing ongoing domestic disputes, with the deceased reportedly accusing his wife of infidelity.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the two had unresolved misunderstandings, and the deceased suspected the wife of cheating. This possibly led to the fatal altercation,” said SP Tayebwa Apollo, the acting Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi.
SP Tayebwa said police visited the scene, documented evidence and arrested the suspect (Nshemereirwe) on the spot, noting that she is currently in police custody to assist with investigations.
Namara’s body was transferred to Rugazi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
“We are continuing with inquiries to establish the full circumstances under which this heinous act occurred,” said SP Tayebwa. “We assure the public that justice will be pursued, and all findings will be communicated in due course.”
Police have since appealed to the public to seek help from authorities when faced with domestic or interpersonal grievances, instead of resorting to violence.
This is the latest in a string of domestic violence incidents that have rocked parts of western Uganda in recent months, raising concerns among leaders and civil society groups.
