A woman has been arrested for allegedly torturing her 5-year-old step son.
The suspect, Shantel Mercy is a resident Nyakeizi cell,Kakoba division in Mbarara City. She allegedly burnt the minor in the back and locked him in the pit latrine forcing him to clean it using his tongue. She was arrested when she had taken her other two children to a salon.
“I was notified at about 9am that a woman is keeping her step son under the bed with a burnt back and also keeps him in the latrine . I was also informed she has been asking the boy to clean it with his own tongue, so I notified police who swung into action,” said Ahmed Timanywa, the chairperson LC1 for Nyakeizi Cell.
The child according to reports was discovered by police in a latrine and had wounds in the back.
Preliminary investigations revealed that boys’ father neglected him and left the wife with a child with no support.
The Kakooba area councilor Sayif Lubowa said the child has been feeding from latrine and only moves out when the latrine is being used.
Upon interrogation, Shantel couldn’t justify her evil acts on the little boy. Police have kicked off investigations into the matter.
