CRIME
Police in Bushenyi District have commenced investigations into the murder of a 48-year-old woman, Einid Nankunda, who was reportedly killed in a night attack under suspicious circumstances.
Nankunda, a resident of Nyabutobo cell in Rwentuha Town Council, was found dead early Monday morning with multiple deep cuts on her face, head, and chest.
According to the area LC1 Chairperson Fenekansi Kataryeba, residents were alarmed after discovering a large stone near Nankunda’s house and bloodied blankets abandoned in a nearby banana plantation. These signs raised suspicion, prompting further search and alerting local authorities.
“There was no noise or commotion heard during the night, but in the morning, residents noticed strange signs outside the house and called for help,” Kataryeba said.
Initial confusion surrounded the identity of the victim. Nabasa Naboth Muhereza, the Mayor of Rwentuha Town Council, said locals first believed the woman’s young daughter, who was found roped and unconscious in bed, had been killed. However, upon arrival, police deployed a sniffer dog which led them to Nankunda’s body, discovered hidden in her bed, soaked in blood.
The body was taken to Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital for a postmortem examination.
No suspects have been arrested yet, but police have confirmed that investigations into the murder are ongoing.
