A new HIV status report by the Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) shows that the number of Ugandans living with HIV has stayed at 1.4M with the country having a prevalence of 5.2%.
Releasing the report findings at the National HIV and AIDS Symposium at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Nakawa Kampala on Tuesday, the director of planning at Uganda Aids Commission, Dr. Vincent Bagambe said majority of these are still women.
Bagambe expressed concern over the high number of new infections in the country which he says is unacceptable and must be addressed urgently.
“We have an estimated 54,000 people acquiring HIV/AIDS every year, unfortunately, the majority of these are women” – Dr Vicent Bagambe
He further says the country is yet to hit the target of having 95% of people with HIV knowing their status.
According to the report, more men are dying of HIV/AIDS related illnesses than their female counterparts.
But, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja says that government is committed to kick HIV/AIDS in Uganda
“I wish to reiterate government commitment to the fight against #HIV. Uganda will continue to work with our partners to ensure a resilient health care system for the prosperity of our country.” PM Nabbanja said
