Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has pledged to strengthen the National Resistance Movement (NRM) through enhanced mobilisation and closer links between the party and the legislature, when elected as NRM Second Vice Chairperson (Female) on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Meeting NRM delegates from Busoga sub-region at her home in Nalina LC1, Kagulu Sub-county, Buyende District, Among said she intends to bring “new things” to the party if elected.
“I am going to bring new ideas in terms of mobilisation, linking the party with the legislature, and building the NRM’s support base because I still have the energy to do it,” she said.
Among urged all aspirants for party leadership positions to remain united and respect each other throughout the campaign period.
“As I told you the first time we met, we are in competition within NRM. By the end of these elections, we should leave the party more united than before, not divided,” she said.
The Busoga delegates, led by Parliament Commissioner and Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwanyi, pledged to support Among’s candidature, citing her leadership skills and mobilisation efforts.
“All of us here are committed to support you because of your leadership and we shall actively participate in implementing government programmes,” Silwanyi said. He also urged Among to spearhead development projects in Busoga, including establishing a factory in each district.
Delegates, operating under the name Team Mulamu, came from all districts of the sub-region. Those in attendance included Bugabula South MP Maurice Henry Kibalya (Kamuli District), Budiope East MP Moses Hassim Magogo (Buyende District), and Sanoni Nadeba Bwire (Kaliro District), among others.
Among faces stiff competition from former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, the incumbent, who has held the CEC position for over a decade.
