Uganda National Examination Board on Thursday said it had withheld 2022 Uganda Certificate Examination for 1,035 candidates over examination malpractice.
“A total of 1,035 results will be withheld in accordance with section 5(2)(b) of the UNEB Act No 1 of 2021,” said UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo.
Odongo made the remarks while releasing the 2022 UCE results at State House Nakaseero. He said that the affected centres / candidates will be notified through their portals and be given a fair hearing as required by the law of Natural Justice.
UNEB also noted a reduction in cases of examination malpractice in the 2022 UCE exams as compared to previous years.
According to the board, more cases of examination malpractice were registered in practical science subjects especially physics.
Speaking at the release of the results, Prof. Mary Okwakol, the board chairman attributed the increasing cases of examination malpractice to inadequate briefing of candidates by some of the school Headteachers and centre supervisors.
Janet Kataha Museveni, the minister of education said that the ministry will not tolerate any cases of examination malpractice. She warned that culprits will be dealt with in accordance with the punitive measures under the UNEB Act, 2021.
In 2022, a total of 349,455 candidates (173,761 males and 171,934 females) appeared for the examination compared to 330,592 candidates who appeared for the examination in 2021.
This is an increase of 16,063 (+4.8%) candidates
