The month of March is worldwide recognized as the women’s month, specifically 8th March, which is internationally celebrated as Women’s Day to recognize the role women play in society at various stages of life. It also doubles as the Holy Month of Ramadhan, likely to end with Eid al-Fitr celebrations on March 20.

In recognition of these two key calendar events, Pearl Bank, through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives pillar of Education, extended support of water tanks and assorted food items to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Daawa Liaison Community Outreach, specifically to IUIU Summayyah and Abu-Mayanja hostels.

Pearl Bank Mbale Branch Manager Arafat Zaake said, “Worldwide, Muslims annually recognize Ramadan as a month of fasting, communal prayer, reflection, and as a bank, we are pleased to collaborate with IUIU Community to give a token of assorted food items to students to support with breaking the fast and celebrating the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.”

Zaake said, “Women play a central role in the family and society, and when we create an environment where they can thrive, like providing access to clean water sustainably, we are not only empowering them but allowing them to grow and prosper. Hence, the bank is pleased to donate two 10,000-liter water tanks to extend access to water.”

He further explained, “Fasting is not only a sacrifice, but it showcases one’s commitment to strengthen their spiritual journey, and we commend all those who have observed this during the holy month.

The Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda commended the bank for the donations, noting that the water tanks will not only help in easing access to safe water but also improving sanitation within halls of residence.

“We thank Pearl Bank for extending this support. It came in at a point where it was needed. I know our students will not only enjoy the Eid token but the water tanks which will ensure that water supply is constant and it can be accessed as and when it is needed.

Pearl Bank has participated in several Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives that are guided by its Scale, Impact, and Sustainability (SIS) agenda, which are centered on six areas: Humanitarian Support, Education & Sports, Social Enterprise, Environment, and Financial Literacy.

Pearl Bank Uganda, formerly PostBank Uganda, has continued to stay true to its purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans, backed by its two high-impact goals: To drive sustainable financial inclusion and To stimulate entrepreneurship and service.

Zaake said the Bank will continue to champion initiatives that complement government’s efforts that are aligned to the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV) goal of accelerating Uganda’s socio-economic transformation by 2040..
