In a remarkable display of generosity and collaboration, Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital recently partnered with Children’s Surgery International to conduct a paediatric surgical camp that provided free operations to 206 children in need. The camp saw a variety of surgeries being performed, including six cleft lip palate procedures, 98 ENT cases such as neck masses and Adenotonsolectomy, and 102 other surgeries like hypospadias repairs, orchidopexy, and hernias.
Dr. Businge Stephen, the hospital director, expressed his gratitude towards Children’s Surgery International for choosing Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital as the venue for the camp. He commended the successful outcome of the camp, highlighting the identification of critical areas where government intervention is necessary, especially in addressing the increasing cases of adenotonsillitis. Dr. Businge emphasized the importance of providing affordable surgical options to underprivileged individuals, noting that many hospitals charge exorbitant fees for such procedures.
Mr. Robert Tumusiime, the hospital administrator, extended his appreciation to the dedicated staff members who volunteered their time and expertise during the surgical camp. He underscored the value of donating time as a valuable resource, urging others to contribute their efforts towards charitable causes. Additionally, he thanked the hospital’s partners for their unwavering support and pledged continued collaboration in future initiatives aimed at saving lives. He told our reporter that the camp ran from 29th February to 1st March, 2024 and they did not register any complications.
The successful outcome of the paediatric surgical camp at Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital serves as a testament to the power of partnerships and community engagement in providing essential medical care to those in need. The hospital’s commitment to serving vulnerable populations and advocating for accessible healthcare sets a laudable example for others to follow.
