A total of 229 people died in road accidents in the month of September.
According to the Traffic Police Assistant Superintendent of Police Nampiima Faridah the traffic police spokesperson told journalists that they registered 1470 road accidents across the country in which 252 people died.
“A total of 1,407 accidents were registered in the month of September, and out of these 229 people died and 1,054 were injured in the whole country. The main cause was speeding and reckless driving.” Nampiima said
She says that the major cause of these accidents was over speeding and reckless driving mostly by boda boda riders.
Meanwhile, Nampiima also revealed that they have so far released a total of 1066 motorcycles following the presidential directive to release all motorcycles impounded over curfew.
The Directorate of Traffic and Road safety has warned drivers who have stubbornly continued to abuse the traffic laws by driving beyond the prescribed speed and reckless riding of motor cycles Kampala areas and major highways.
