Residents of Kithabona Village, Buthale Parish in Kyalhumba Sub-county, Kasese District, were on Wednesday morning left in shock after a 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside his house.
The area Local Council One (LC1) chairperson, Asasio Kyabanikire, identified the deceased as Latifu Mumbere, a resident of the same village.
According to Kyabanikire, the deceased’s body was discovered by a relative who had taken breakfast to his house, only to find him hanging from the ceiling.
“It is unfortunate. Mumbere had been living alone after separating from his wife. It is suspected that the separation could have pushed him into depression,” Kyabanikire said.
Police officers from Kyarumba Post later visited the scene and documented the matter before allowing relatives to remove the body for burial arrangements.
By press time, no official postmortem report had been released, but local leaders urged residents to seek counseling and community support whenever they encounter domestic or personal challenges.
