Police in Mbarara City South Division have successfully cracked down on criminal activities related to drug abuse in the area. Led by SP Namara Kellen, the Division Police Commander, a recent intelligence-led operation was carried out between 11:00 pm to 4:00 am in various cells within the division.

The operation targeted areas such as Katete Central Cell, Bihuunya Cell, Kitebero Cell, Rwemirinzi Cell, and Karugangama Cell, all located in Katete Ward. These areas were identified as hotspots for criminal elements selling and using marijuana and other illegal substances. It was reported that these individuals would later spread out to different parts of the city and pose a threat to the communities during night hours.

A total of 34 suspects were apprehended during the operation for being in possession of marijuana and other narcotic substances. These individuals were taken to Ruti Police Station where they are currently being held. They have been charged accordingly and are awaiting screening and prosecution.
