A 19 year old boy in Kiruhura district has been arrested over alleged self-kidnap and demanding for a Sh3 millions ransom from his parents.
CP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson has identified the suspect as Ojera Ezekiel, a S.1 student at Kaswa secondary second in Kiruhura district. He allegedly connived with his friends to fake his kidnap with an aim of getting money from his parents
Last week, the school sent Ojera back home for school fees but he did not go back home in stead, he decided to hide in a village called Ekyitika together with his friends and called his parents via unknown number demanding for a ransom
On Monday, Enanga confirmed to the journalists at police headquarters in Naguru that the police in Kiruhura had arrested Ojera on charges of self kidnap.
“Our police in Kiruhura last week arrested a S.1 students at Kaswa secondary school who was trying to ask for 3 million from his parents. This young man with his friends decided to hide in Ekyitika village and called the parents of Ojera that they are going to kill him if they don’t send 3 million shillings. Good enough our police managed to trace these kids and we have them,” Enanga said.
Furthermore, Fred Enanga said that the police is going to take action on the suspect so that other children can learn from him.
