Recruitment exercise of UPDF in Busoga North Begins

The UPDF has today started the recruitment exercise of those who applied to join the army last Month and were shortlisted in Kamuli district.

The exercise began on 5th August 2025 with Jinja district, however in Busoga North which is complied of Kamuli Buyende and Kaliro district they began today with Kamuli district.

According to Lieutenant Nathan Tumuhairwe the public information officer UPDF recruitment Team, Team Three Busoga sub region their initial target in Busoga sub region is 969 recruits but for Kamuli district they want only 129.

“Our initial target is to have 969 recruits in the entire Busoga sub region and we have a target from each district in Busoga but for this case in Kamuli district we want only 129 recruits”; he said.

Lt Tumuhairwe also highlighted mismatch and late coming as the only challenges they have faced during the first day of recruitment exercise and screening.

“Some challenges; their people who with mismatches. You find someone who applied is Isabirye Kakaire and we receive Musa Kakaire so in that situation we can not allow him join because that one become a different person. And the other thing is late coming and those are the only challenges we have so far faced”; Tumuhairwe said.

When asked why the UPDF this time used online recruitment system, Lt. Tumuhairwe said that; ” This time round we changed the system and our target was to make sure that we recruit people who can read and write. So whoever who can not embrace the technology means you are not fit to be in the army”; he said.

Rose Birungi, the RDC Kamuli district appreciated those who showed heart to serve the nation and encouraged them to be patriotic.

“I’m happy that many youths have turned up to serve their nation however I argue them to be patriotic such that they serve the Ugandans wholeheartedly”; Birungi said.

Among the 100 recruits who were screened today 20 were girls.

After screening, those who are verified will be given the movement order card which is going to help them to travel from their homes to Kaweweta recruit training school in Ngoma sub county Nakaseke district. And this card is valid for three days.

The recruitment exercise took place at Kamuli youth centre in Kamuli municipality with Kamuli district and it will be followed by Buyende and Kaliro.
