Police in Mubende district has rescued one suspect from the hands of angry mob who wanted to lynch him accusing him of stealing number plates on their motor vehicles and motorcycles.
The Wamala region police spokesperson ASP Racheal Kawala has identified the suspect as Joseph Nteziyaya, a resident of Kibati zone, Mubende municipality.
He was earlier this day found with stolen number plates which prompted the mob to descend on to him.
Preliminary reports indicate that Nteziyaya has been allegedly unplugging number plates from the vehicles and hide them in the bush.
Police was called in and responded immediately before the highly charged mob could beat him to death.
Kawala says that they recovered some of the stolen number plates and that the suspect is in police custody.
Police has already started inquiries into the matter.
