Police at Kira road are holding in their cell the minister of state for finance, planning and economic development Amos Lugoloobi oñ charges related to Karamoja iron sheet Scam.
Lugoloobi reportedly received up to 600 iron sheets that the government procured through the Office Prime Minister (OPM) to extend relief support to benefit the people in Karamoja region.
He had earlier admitted receipt of the iron sheets stating that used some of them to roof his cattle shed but he later deroofed the shed after he was listed among the ministers and other government officials that stole from the poor. He called the bonanza evil iron sheets.
“I have realised that these iron sheets are evil and I no longer need them. Let me remove it so that I buy other iron sheets and re-roof my shed so that no one can lay claim that I owe them anything on my property,” he is quoted to have said
He becomes the second minister to be arrested following the arrest of the minister in-charge of Karamoja, Maria Gorretti Kitutu and her brother who were recently arrested and remanded to Luzira by the Anti-Corruption court for close to two weeks.
The duo was earlier today released on a shillings 10m and Shs3m cash bail.
Few days ago, president Museveni threatened that all individuals implicated in the scandal would pay for it. The president directed that individuals who used the received iron sheets for government programmes should buy or pay the equivalent amount while those still withholding the iron sheets were asked to return them to the OPM stores in Namanve.
However, reports indicate that more individuals are risking arrest despite the presidential directive on returning the received 28 guage iron sheets.
