Two suspected Allied Democratic Force (ADF) rebels have been arrested and detained in separate detentions in Uganda.
One of the suspects is a 27-year-old male adult who was arrested in Kitagwenda district, southwest Uganda.
Police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga said during a media engagement at police headquarters in Naguru on Monday (October 30) that the suspect revealed that he was apprehended from Kafunda cell, Ibanda Municipality and kidnapped together with 5 others in 2015 by ADF at River Nyamwamba, in Kasese and trained in Kilembe highlands in DRC
“He claims he escaped from Califonia ADF Camp, in 2018 and returned to his home village at Kafunda cell, Ibanda district where he has been staying, before shifting to Nyanga cell, Mahyoro sub-county in Kitagwenda district for casual work,” Enanga explained
The second incident involves an 18-year-old Ransur Komakech alias Kadogo who is being detained at central police station Kampala after he was found with live ammunition.
Enanga added that the suspect admitted to having been a remnant of the ADF after he was recruited at age 7.
“Upon interrogations, the suspect claimed that he managed to escape from the ADF camp in Congo, and returned to Uganda,” police reported.
The ADF rebels have been terrorizing different parts of the country oftentimes causing brutal attacks on schools and other public places with the recent deadly attacks being on Lubhiriha Secondary School in Kasese and recent alleged rebel attack on tourists who were on their honeymoon in Queen Elizabeth National Park Kasese and their tour guide, a Ugandan national.
Government last week provided amnesty to all members of the ADF willing to surrender to peacefully return home one way of restoring safety and security in the affected areas.
