UPDF Launches First-Ever CDF Inter-Forces Drill Competition

The Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) has launched the inaugural edition of the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Inter-Forces Drill Competition, 2025′ aimed at enhancing discipline, professionalism, and teamwork among officers.

The competition was officially launched on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the UPDF General Salute Stadium in Bombo.

Brig. Gen. Wycliffe R. Keita, chairperson of the implementation committee, revealed that 15 formations have registered to participate in the competition. These teams will showcase their skills in various drill categories, including sword drill, crop stick, cane stick, and foot drill, and band demonstrations among others.

“The participants represent different services, arms, and units of the UPDF,” Brig. Keita said. “The best-performing formations and individuals will be recognized and awarded, and the best of the best will be awarded a crown.”

He added that a team of instructors has been assigned to train and equip participants with the necessary skills to high standards.

The event was officiated by Deputy CDF Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, who represented CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. In his remarks, Lt. Gen. Okiding emphasized the importance of the competition in fostering discipline, professionalism, and unity within the forces.

“This competition is designed to keep the UPDF upright, instill discipline, and strengthen teamwork among our forces,” he stated.

The CDF Inter-Forces Drill Competition will now be an annual event, with its first edition held under the theme: “Disciplined Forces for a Better Uganda.” The final competition is scheduled for May 12, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds.
