A groundbreaking medical initiative has brought critical prostate and oral cancer screening services to Isingiro District. Organized by MINC Public Health Consultants Uganda Limited in partnership with Isingiro Christian Church, the five-day camp, which began on Monday, March 10, and will run until Friday, March 15, offers free screenings to men aged 35 and above.
Nuwahereza Innocent, Executive Director of MINC Public Health Consultants Uganda Limited, emphasized the importance of taking healthcare services closer to the people. “We recognized the urgent need to provide these life-saving screenings to rural communities, and we are thankful for the support of Isingiro Christian Church, the Isingiro District Health Office, Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council, Ministry of Health, and other local authorities,” he said.
The initiative has received strong backing from various stakeholders, including the Isingiro District Health Office, Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council, and the Ministry of Health. Local leaders, such as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Resident District Commissioner (RDC), and Isingiro Town Mayor, have also pledged their support.
Pastor John Asiimwe, Chief Mobilizer of the camp, expressed heartfelt gratitude to MINC Public Health Consultants Uganda Limited for partnering with Isingiro Christian Church. “This initiative is a blessing for our community, and we are committed to ensuring its success,” Asiimwe remarked.
Under the skilled guidance of Dr. BUA Ocham Emmanuel, a specialist surgeon, hundreds of men from Isingiro District and neighboring areas have already received comprehensive care. The services are provided by a dedicated team of health professionals drawn from clinics and laboratories in Isingiro, Nyeihanga, Mitooma, and Ibanda Districts.
MINC’s innovative local resource mobilization strategy has played a crucial role in leveraging community resources and expertise to support this health camp.
Prostate cancer remains a pressing public health challenge in Africa, with a significant rise in cases over the last two decades. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), it is the most common cancer among men in Uganda, accounting for approximately 23.4% of all cancer cases. Oral cancer is equally concerning, with an alarming 70% of cases diagnosed at advanced stages.
By offering free screenings, the camp hopes to address the rising incidence and mortality rates associated with these diseases in Isingiro District. Organizers aim to screen at least 500 men during the five-day program, refer individuals with suspicious findings for further diagnosis and treatment, and educate the community on the significance of early detection and prevention.

As the camp progresses, the organizers are urging men aged 35 and above to seize this opportunity to get screened. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are pivotal in the fight against cancer, making this initiative a critical step toward improving public health outcomes in the district.
Looking to the future, MINC Public Health Consultants Uganda Limited is calling on potential partners to expand this initiative across Western Uganda. “We believe every man deserves access to these life-saving services,” said Nuwahereza Innocent. “We invite organizations, individuals, and government agencies to join hands in combating prostate and oral cancer throughout the region.”
Together, these efforts symbolize a shared commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of communities in Western Uganda.
