KAMPALA
The Chief Magistrate Court in Mukono on Thursday remanded Hakim Wamala, a 41-year-old Ugandan Tik Tok user after he was found guilty of inciting violence and spreading false information about the safety of the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.
Court heard that Hakim, a resident of Kalagi Village in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District, on November 9, 2025, allegedly recorded and posted a video using his TikTok account @hakiqualitypropertyandconstruction, in which he reportedly urged members of the public to commit acts of violence using weapons such as pangas and spears.
Police from Nakifuma and Kampala Metropolitan Police accuse Hakim of circulating false and malicious information claiming that Kyagulanyi was in danger, remarks investigators say were likely to create fear and trigger unlawful behaviour among sections of the public.
Wamala was formally charged with incitement to violence and misuse of social media, and subsequently remanded pending further mention of the case.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Oweyesigyire, urged the public to use digital platforms responsibly, warning that spreading falsehoods or inciting violence online is a criminal offence.
He said security agencies continue to monitor online activity and will take action against individuals who threaten public peace and safety through social media.
